Zonal museum

This Museum is popular as the Zonal Museum and one of the most popular museums of Dehradun. The Anthropological Survey of India established the museum in the year 1971. This museum displays collection of artifacts related to the origin, development and sustenance of mankind on earth. The museum also exhibits the origin and social customs of the early inhabitants of people in the Himalayan foothills.

Opening Hours: 10 AM - 1 PM and 2 PM - 5 PM. Closed on Sundays, 2nd Saturdays and public holidays

Entry Fee: Visitors have to pay a nominal charge, depending on the nationality

Forest research institute (FRI)

The Forest Research Institute of India, popularly called as FRI Dehradun is an architectural marvel and vast collection of forestry related items in its six museums. It is known for its natural diversity, spectacular beauty and magnificent architecture, this institute is one of the top places to see in Dehradun.

Opening Hours: Monday to Friday –9 AM to 5 PM

Entry Fee: INR 10 per person

Asan barrage

An amazing place bustling with life, the richness of nature and beauty, Assan Barrage is a bird lover's paradise and a naturalists' heaven with its artificial lake attracting thousands of birds of varied species. Assan Barrage was formed due to the confluence of two great rivers of Uttarakhand _ã_ Assan and Yamuna River. The area created by their confluence is today a place full of life, biodiversity and the most unique bird population in the world.

Malsi deer park

Another one of the best places to visit in Dehradun with family is Malsi Deer Park. This zoological garden of Dehradun spreads over 25 hectares and acts as a habitat for species such as two horned deer, nilgai, leopard, peacock and eagle.

Opening Hours: 10 am to 6 pm. The deer park remain closed on Mondays

Maldevta

A surreal place besieged by the dense thicket and river Song flowing in ecstasy, Mal Devta is one of the popular tourist attractions of Dehradun. The calm surroundings and the gurgling sound of the river make this place a safe haven for Doonites who are awe-inspired by the magnetising beauty of Maldevta.

Wadia institue of himalayan geology

One of the finest Dehradun, India points of interest includes Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology. Established in June 1968, it is an autonomous research institute for the study of Geology of the Himalaya. The institute also has a museum which offers a glimpse into the mighty Himalayas, its origin, its evolution, and life in the geological past.

Jabarkhet Wildlife Sanctuary

Jabarkhet Nature Reserve is the first privately owned and operated wildlife sanctuary in Uttarakhand. Located on the Mussoorie- Dhanaulti road, around 15 kms from the heart of the city, the nature park is spread over 100 acres of land. At an elevation of approximately 2000 metres above the sea level, Jabarkhet Nature Reserve is set around different altitudinal zones with an extensive variety of rare plants, insects, reptiles, animals, trees, birds and mammals.
